Let’s talk about something that plagues our community. High blood pressure is no joking matter, however the good news is it is preventable and reversible. Through diet change, herbal medicine and stress management you can beat high blood pressure. There’s no real reason to have to go to the hospital if you can learn how to properly apply the three fields mentioned before. As it stands right now there are around 80 million people in the United States alone that have hypertension and climbing.

So what causes high blood pressure? According to the American Heart Association Hypertension is the measured force of blood pushing against the blood vessels. The “normal” blood pressure range is set at 130 over 80 millimeters of mercury. This number will vary from person to person depending on their lifestyle. The one thing that is consistent though is people that have HBP face bigger problems such as liver damage, stroke, and possibly death. Typical people won’t know that they have high blood pressure because there are no real symptoms until it’s too late. This is why it is extremely important that we learn how to take care of ourselves at home first on a day to day basis.

It has been clinically proven that change in diet and lifestyle can get you out of the red zone for hypertension. We believe that adding herbs to that equation could really help people as well. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis: hibiscus is an edible flower, the pedals are deep red in color and has a sour taste to it. Hibiscus has been used for years in Chinese medicine, African medicine and even in today’s culture as a medical herb to treat high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver damage, and helps with digestion. Two cups of hibiscus tea a day for 2 weeks or so is enough to drop your blood pressure up to 10 points. Although the flower is edible its best to consume in tea for because the bioavailability in a warm liquids are much faster compared to solid foods.

Cinnamon: this bark can be used in a lot of dishes that we eat but it is extremely beneficial to people high blood pressure. Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties that can be very helpful in relieving swelling due to some side effects of hypertension. Paired with hibiscus you have an herbal tea that will put you on the right path in beating high blood pressure.
